Wed 6 June: Solidarity vigil in Chester for Bradley Manning

Bradley Manning’s next court hearing begins at Fort Meade, Maryland on 6 June. Show your solidarity with Bradley wherever you are.

In Chester, we will hold a vigil from 3pm on Wednesday 6 June. Meet under Eastgate Clock, Eastgate Street, Chester CH1.

RSVP your attendance here.

Press release for this event here.

We will be holding a vigil for Bradley Manning in the historic Roman city of Chester (Deva), once a military base on the outskirts of the Empire when Britain was under Roman rule. Almost two thousand years later, the US Empire is in charge and we have allowed Britain to be used for this Empire’s military purposes. As well as tolerating US military bases on British soil, in the last ten years alone we have followed the US into two disastrous wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and we share responsibility for all the deaths and suffering that have followed.

Bradley Manning is accused of leaking the Collateral Murder footage, the Iraq War Logs, the Afghan War Diary, the Guantanamo Files and hundreds of thousands of US diplomatic cables. Together, these documents evidence the grim truth about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the so-called ‘war on terror’ that is being fought right across the Empire and the US quest for ‘full spectrum domination’. The leaks reveal evidence of war crimes, illegal practices, dodgy deals and many other truths previously concealed from the public.

Bradley Manning’s Nobel Peace Prize nomination is well-deserved. Bringing these documents out into the light of day was a public service of global importance. Whistleblowers should be protected, not persecuted. We call for Bradley to be released and all charges against him dropped.

The Chester vigil is one of many that will be held from 6-8 June. Others include outside the court hearing at Fort Meade, Maryland and elsewhere across the US, in Canada, Australia and London.
