The play premiered as a National Theatre Wales production in 2012 at the school in Haverfordwest that Chelsea (formerly Bradley) Manning attended as a teenager, from where it moved to Cardiff and Connah’s Quay. In 2013 it returned with a run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe as part of the British Council Showcase, where it won the prestigious James Tait Black award.

About the new production

Promotional material for the play explains:

The most exciting political play of its time, ‘The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning’ is full of challenges for both its cast and audience. In May 2010 Manning tried to change our world by leaking information to the world wide web allowing people to assess the actions of the American military in Iraq. We can now see, hear and speak, if we wish to, about the way some of the most powerful authorities in the world work to maintain power.

The Radicalisation of Bradley Manning is directed by Charmian Savill with 3rd year Theatre, Film and TV students (seen here in rehearsals).

Stall for Manning Family Fund

We will have a stall at the play and will be promoting awareness of the Private Manning Family Fund that is currently raising money to support Chelsea’s Welsh family members with the cost of visiting her in prison early next year. The family has already self-funded four visits during the pre-trial period and we hope to be able to make a substantial contribution towards the ongoing costs.
