This event was originally planned for the 17th of October but was subsequently changed to the 14th of November as the questioning of Julian Assange was shifted to that date.
Political Asylum, Arbitrary Detention.
Julian Assange will remain in UK and Swedish history as the individual whose rights were trampled upon by states drunk in their own power. He was put through an extradition process in the UK whose decision has consequently been found to be in error by the UK Supreme Court, was arrested on a warrant found unjust by Parliament who legislated against it, was granted political asylum to protect his life and work from political persecution, was found to be arbitrarily detained by the highest authority in the world in such matters, UNWGAD, still he has not benefitted from all these developments. Politics is what keep him in his current state.
There is no justice when basic human rights are trampled upon to serve the prestige of an unfair judicial system and its representatives, a system without Human Rights bar, without oversight. Neither is justice done when legal process involving both the police and judicial authorities of two countries are subject to political interference. There is no justice when vast sums of public money are expended in the name of upholding the law when in fact they are spent in covering up the deep hypocrisy of states’ power, when they feel such power is under threat from scrutiny. Neither is justice done when again public money is expended in creating cultural bias and prejudice against a man without a path to recourse.
Solidarity Vigil
We call a solidarity vigil on Monday the 14th of November outside the Ecuadorian Embassy at 9am to remind those who have prevaricated for six years, those who have sabotaged the progress of the legal process, those who engaged the powers of two states to hold Julian Assange Arbitrarily Detained that we stand witness at the injustice.
The beauty of our societies is that our human nature forever will gaze the horizon with hope and since Julian Assange’s horizon is hindered by the walls of the Ecuadorian Embassy which has become his refuge from persecution, our eyes will do this work. Gazing into the horizon with hope, standing witness, standing in respectful solidarity, together.

It’s the start of summer here on the Gold Coast. The bats are arriving to eat my neighbour’s ripening mangoes, and the beaches are once again full of tourists. As the seasons change, year by year, I always think of Julian Assange, who was raised by his wonderful mother to delight in nature. I wish I could wrap up the kookaburra’s morning laughter, the nightly croaking of the cane toads, or the smell of fresh-cut lawn and mail it to him!
As Julian said recently, life in the embassy has become normalised for him. He hasn’t seen the sun for so long, he no longer notices the lack of it. 10 days in prison, 2 years under house arrest, and now 4 years in the Embassy has taken its toll.
As the United Nations ruled, this is a gross violation of human rights. Julian must be released, but he also deserved compensation for his years of suffering, and the further suffering carelessly inflicted on his family. In London, you are surrounded by people who have been deliberately targeted and educated with lies to make them hate Julian Assange. Media organisations like the Guardian and the New Statesman, who have lead these relentless smear attacks, should also be forced to apologize and pay compensation. To those of you who help fight back against this hateful propaganda – again, many thanks!
I cannot say that the election of Donald Trump is a good thing, but at least it provides an opportunity for the USA and its partners to reassess policies that have been wrong for too long. It is time to pardon Edward Snowden. It is time to release Chelsea Manning from years of torture. And it is time to end the 6 year persecution of Julian Assange and his team of WikiLeaks journalists!

There are legions who would love to stand in support outside the Embassy but your reach has touched us around the globe and we stand on every continent and populate the internet and we are everywhere there are hearts inspired to seek truth, justice and peace. To the extent that you have given us unique tools and guidance to see our world with the mechanisms of power laid bare, your fate is a symbolic reflection of our own. Your confinement is tangible evidence of freedoms and rights denied.
But your courage has been contagious and embolden us to stand up in countless ways large and small against abuses of power in our own little corners of the world. You have helped us to see ourselves as part of a larger picture that is global and formerly relegated to the planning of corporate and political titans.
The end result is yet to be written but history does repeat itself and we mortals find ourselves in struggles very similar to those who cam before us. At our best we hope that we can learn from the past so I have collected some thoughts from Albert Einstein that were born of a very dark time and envisioned another manner of thinking that changes the trajectory from global wars to world peace.

Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds. Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty…We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive.
In previous ages a nation’s life and culture could be protected to some extent by the growth of armies in national competition. Today we must abandon competition and secure cooperation. This must be the central fact in all our considerations of international affairs; otherwise we face certain disaster.
Past thinking and methods did not prevent world wars. Future thinking must prevent wars.

Julian Assange should be pardoned now by any country or other legal authority that currently has a complaint involving him.
Julian via WikiLeaks has single-handedly stopped the corrupt CLINTON machine from grabbing more power via the U.S. Presidency.
