With Lenin Moreno’s government signing on the dotted line of the IMF $4.2 billion deal we are reminded that “Since 2017 the US has privately stated to Ecuador that the deal has two political conditions: a plan to hand over Julian Assange and ceasing to pursue environmental damages claims against US oil giant Chevron.”

For the last year Lenin Moreno’s government has imposed draconian protocol regulating his life, gagging him by curtailing his communications, limiting his visitors and increasing his ordeal living inside the embassy, and force him to surrender enabling him his surrender to the US. In the heart of London and under the nose of the London Mayor a Western publisher endures years of torment, his every move and communication monitored by Metropolitan Police.
One should wonder for an international metropolis like London what does the local local government do to save this man. Whilst the Swiss regional Parliament in Geneva propose Julian Assange asylum The Local London Assembly has fundamentally failed to even scrutinise the amount of money spent by Metropolitan Police in keeping him trapped inside the Embassy. It is time to finally ask the question how such authoritarianism in the heart of London is tolerated.
