The Julian Assange Defence Committee protests outside Westminster Magistrates Court 14.06.2019

The Courage Foundation has produced a wonderful recap of the Julian Assange extradition hearing which took place on the 14th of June 2019 at Westminster Magistrates Court which you can read here.

Below are some videos and photos from the protest we organised outside Westminster Magistrates Court. Very grateful to independent reporter Gordon Dimmack who accepted to share a few of his thoughts with the protestors.

Many supporters arrived early to queue up and attempt to enter Court no 3, many were again disappointed as there were only 10 seats available in the public gallery. There were also complains from journalists who were unable to cover the proceedings in a manner they wished as they were partially or totally excluded due to lack of space as well as court security misunderstanding their role in regulating the interested parties.

Back in February 2012 the Supreme Court accredited 90 journalists to attend the court hearing re Julian Assange’s Swedish extradition case. It provided overflow working facilities for those unable to take a seat in the courtroom. The two day Supreme court hearings, which were televised and broadcasted live, attracted 14,000 viewers on the first day alone. I hope that similar steps will be put in place for the Full Court hearings at Westminster Magistrates Court regarding Julian Assange’s US Extradition case.

Police requesting the entrance to the building remains accessible at all times.
