JADC Grassroots Solidarity Actions for Julian #Assange September & October 2019

Dear friends in the struggle to free Julian Assange!

Thank you for the amazing participation in our JADC actions!

JADC members went to Tolpuddle Festival and manned an JADC Information stall Canvassing support for Julian Assange at Young Socialists Summer Festival in Hoxton. Many of our members have gone, flyering, letter writing, correcting the record and canvassing support for the WikiLeaks’s publisher and a great number of us had a great night out at Lee Camp’s show on the 18th, flyering to advertise our rally on the 24th which was very well attended whilst other actions included flyering at the Byline festival and Notting Hill Carnival!

Here are some of our upcoming events for Sep/Oct:

Saturday 14th of September 6-8pm “What can we learn from Latin America”

Organised by Collectivo Ecuador the “Stop International Lawfare” initiative invites our members to the conference “What can we learn from Latin America” Former Foreign Minister of Ecuador and Lecturer at the University of Paris Dr Guillaume Long will be in conversation with Rachel Godfrey Wood (Lead Organiser Momentum) and Artin Giles Vice Chair London Young Labour and co-secretary of Labour against racism and Fascism (LARAF). This is a wonderful opportunity to canvass support for Julian Assange and WikiLeaks and learn from the political processes and struggles in Latin America.

We recall the words of Vaughan Smith who in a recent speech at the FrontLine Club (from 1hr 7min) that “there is an issue with the courts here [UK] I think that the legal process has been used by the Americans and supported by us as a vehicle of revenge to present him as somebody… to dissuade others from… give him an unpleasant experience so other people don’t imitate what he is doing […]”

Our monthly protest in support of Julian Assange takes us back to Belmarsh Prison after almost six months. We mark the end of his prison sentence for violating bail conditions whilst seeking political asylum to protect his life and work from US persecution. Sadly despite having served a most unfair sentence, Julian Assange will remain an inmate of Belmarsh in remand, awaiting his Court hearing at Westminster Magistrates Court in February 2020 for the US Extradition Request. We protest against his unfair imprisonment and demand he is not extradited. Join our action!
