28/11/2019 #FreeTheTruth Conference in support of #WikiLeaks publisher Julian #Assange

PRESS RELEASE

FREE THE TRUTH, London, Nov 28th17:10 hrs

On Thursday 28thNovember, over 500 artists, politicians, judicial experts, healthcare professionals, whistleblowers, journalists, publishers, trade unionists, community activists, academics, students and members of the public will participate in a discussion and art exhibition examining the persecution of award-winning journalist and publisher Julian Assange.

Julian is an Australian citizen who was publishing in Europe. He is now in Belmarsh prison, fighting extradition to the USA, where he faces 175 years in an American prison for revealing American war crimes and other factual materials in the public interest.

We will discuss how the smearing, vilification and isolation of Julian has set dangerous precedents in relation to state-sponsored torture, extra-territorial reach of the American state, the criminalisation of journalism and the suppression of dissent.

Mark Curtis, Lisa Longstaff, Lowkey, Prof Nils Melzer, Fidel Narvaez, Craig Murray, and John Pilger will join us to examine how the political and judicial machinery and the media have been employed to deny Julian justice and to deprive him of his humanity.

Artists May Ayres, Anna Fauzy-Ackroyd, Daniel Fooks, Peter Kennard and Terence McGinity will exhibit their works.

The event will take place from 5:10 pm to 9:00 pm GMT at the St Pancras New Church, Euston Road, London, NW1 2BA
