More Members of Parliament act on Constituents’ concern for Julian #Assange at Belmarsh

Please listen to Stella Moris who has stood by Julian Assange for years at the embassy and during the even darker months and years incarcerated in Belmarsh. She is encouraging supporters to write to our politicians in support of Julian Assange, every letter is worth its weight in gold and considering that Julian’s case will be in the British courts for years, the letters you write now will be putting the foundations for the letters you write tomorrow. Educate, ask, demand but burn no bridges. We are in this together, today and tomorrow, building tomorrow with every e-mail, every line!

Thank you for your letter regarding Julian Assange and coronavirus.

As I wrote to you last month, our country has an international obligation to treat all equally under the law. With many prisons facing outbreaks of coronavirus, the Government must take every step possible to protect the welfare of prisoners, including Julian Assange.

As Mr Assange is not a constituent of mine, I cannot make representations on his behalf, however I am more than happy to write to the Minister on your behalf to share your thoughts. I will endeavour to let you know when I receive a reply, but in the meantime, please do let me know if you have any further queries.

Thank you for your follow up email and for speaking to me last week.

I have contacted the new shadow justice team to ask for their thoughts on this. I will be in touch again if and when I received a response.

Thank you for your email, and for raising this issue with me. I understand your concern for the welfare of Mr Assange, and I have made some enquiries with the Ministry of Justice.

I will update you as soon as I receive a response.

Thanks for your email, and for highlighting your concerns about Mr Assange. The Covid-19 outbreak presents significant issues for the Prison Service, and the need to keep staff, visitors, and inmates safe must be of paramount importance.

As a Member of Parliament it would be inappropriate for me to call for the release of any individual, but I share the view of the Prison Officers Association that low risk individuals should be released, at least on a temporary basis, to ensure the safety of staff and inmates and to slow the spread of the virus.
