Member of Parliament share concern for Julian Assange during his imprisonment during the Corona Virus Pandemic

Dear WikiLeaks supporters, please continue writing to your Members of Parliament educating them regarding Julian Assange’s plight and sharing your concern about his health during these difficult times. More and more Members of Parliament are sympathetic toward the release of prisoners  and share concern about Julian Assange’s health. Very grateful to all those who write a letter and share their MP’s reply.

Reply to Constituent by Andy Slaughter, Member of Parliament for Hammersmith

Thanks for your email and I’m sorry for not replying more quickly. I have been inundated with requests for assistance since the outbreak of coronavirus began and it is taking longer than I would like to respond to everyone who has asked for help.

Thanks also for sharing your concerns about Julian Assange’s health during this current pandemic. This concern is very justified given the overcrowding in the country’s prisons.

Despite the outbreak of coronavirus there are still thousands of prisoners sharing cells and the government has abjectly failed in finding cells in which to move people. Similarly, it has also failed with regards to early releases.

I am a member of the Justice Committee and have repeatedly spoken about the issues you’ve raised. Hopefully pressure from the committee as well as from other MPs and members of the public will force the Government to act.

Again, I’m sorry for not replying more quickly and I hope you and your loved ones are well during this difficult time.

Thanks for publishing this reply from the MP Andy Slaughter who I believe is on the prison board and involved in the treatment of prisoners. So good to see his response. Also great to see the supporters bravely protesting at Belmarsh. FREE JULIAN NOW!
