Dame Vivienne Westwood To Suspend 10 Ft High Inside Giant Bird Cage Outside The Old Bailey Re. Julian Assange – 8:15 am, Tues, 21st July 2020
Dame Vivienne Westwood, re-entering public life for the first time after having been shielding for 16 weeks during the COVID-19 lockdown, will be harnessed into a giant birdcage and suspended 10 feet in the air in front of The Old Bailey Criminal Court, EC4M 7EH in protest about the illegal U.S. extradition of Julian Assange for telling the truth about American war crimes.
Westwood, dressed in a yellow trouser suit, will enact the metaphor of ‘The Canary In Coal Mine’, which is indicative of Assange being sacrificed for identifying ‘poison’ in the system.
The banner “I AM JULIAN ASSANGE’ will be in front of the cage.
According to Westwood: “Stop War! Stop government + legal corruption! – Gaming the legal system. Rule of Law gone. Invents a crime + stitch up the victim to fit – in this case: it is a crime to publish American war crimes. Free Assange”.
Assange’s U.S. extradition trial, due to recommence on the Monday, 7th September 2020 will be at The Old Bailey.
Westwood’s activist son, Joe Corré, is behind the protest. Corré, who founded Agent Provocateur, famously turned down an MBE in 2007, in protest against the illegal war in Iraq that Tony Blair took Britain into.
Joe Corré says: “Julian Assange is being persecuted for speaking the truth”.
“The UK public and the international community must now urgently mobilise to shield him from the 175-year living death sentence awaiting him in the United States”.
“Assange’s legal battle is the most important case in our time about press freedom, about whistleblowers, and about holding the powerful to account through the media”.
“The media, the public, the judiciary, the politicians, should be outraged over his treatment”.
