Yellow Vest organiser Corinne Lange has translated in English two articles about Jean-Luc Melanchon nominating Julian Assange for the Nobel Peace Prize. Thank you Corinne! So grateful!
‼️ 📢 Jean-Luc #Mélenchon: More than ever, Julian #Assange needs the protection of the peoples of the world 🎗⏳ Giving him the #Nobel Peace Prize would allow it.
📌 January 28, 2021,
“I have decided to nominate journalist Julian Assange for the Nobel Peace Prize, as I have the power to do as a parliamentarian. Julian Assange is a hero of freedom. The #WikiLeaks initiative has brought war crimes and serious human rights abuses to light. It is right that the peoples of the world express their gratitude to him.
On 4 January 2021, the British courts refused his extradition to the United States, but maintained his imprisonment. More than ever, Julian Assange needs the protection of the peoples of the world. Granting him the Nobel Peace Prize would allow this to happen.
Several other insubordinate parliamentarians will share this view with me. I thus continue my fight for Assange’s freedom. After going to see him in London in 2012, after having held a videoconference meeting with him in 2013, I asked for political asylum for him in France in 2019 and then 2020. At the time, the Keeper of the Seals Dupont-Moretti made the same request. Julian Assange has served France, notably by revealing the spying of three Presidents of the Republic by the United States.
I CALL ON ALL FRENCH PARLIAMENTARIANS TO COMMIT THEMSELVES IN TURN TO ENSURE THAT THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE IS AWARDED TO JULIAN ASSANGE.”

JULIAN ASSANGE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE ? JEAN-LUC MÉLENCHON PAYS TRIBUTE TO THE FOUNDER OF WIKILEAKS
The president of the France-unsubjugated group of MEPs Jean-Luc Mélenchon has asked that the Nobel Peace Prize be awarded to the founder of Wikileaks, Julian Assange, who has been imprisoned in the UK since 11 April 2019.
Some parliamentarians from the Old Continent do not forget Julian Assange. Following the example of a recent initiative of the Irish MEP Clare #Daly in favour of the founder of WikiLeaks, massively rejected within the European institution, on 28 January 2021, it is Jean-Luc Mélenchon who spoke out for the cause of the Australian national, announcing in particular his intention to “propose the journalist Julian Assange for the Nobel Peace Prize”.
“Julian Assange is a hero of freedom. The Wikileaks initiative has brought war crimes and serious human rights abuses to light. It is right that the peoples of the world express their gratitude to him,” wrote the leader of the rebels in a statement quoted by AFP. “More than ever, Julian Assange needs the protection of the peoples of the world. To grant him the Nobel Peace Prize would allow it”, insisted the deputy of the Bouches-du-Rhône, underlining the fact that “Julian Assange served France, in particular by revealing the espionage of three presidents of the Republic by the United States”. As a reminder, Jean-Luc Mélenchon refers here to the Elysée Espionnage dossier, made public by WikiLeaks in 2015.
It is noteworthy that, along with the many Western charges recently brought against Russia in the Navalny affair, which has been held in detention since 17 January for an announced period of 30 days, the case of Julian Assange does not for the time being disgrace the same Western chancelleries, which have been particularly discreet about the Australian national’s imprisonment in the United Kingdom for nearly two years, in conditions that have been denounced on several occasions.
Julian Assange is still under arrest in the high security prison of Belmarsh, and has not been released, despite the British refusal to extradite the Australian national to the United States. As a reminder, after 10 years of legal ordeal, Julian Assange was denied bail on 6 January, pending consideration of his appeal by the United States.

I pay respect to you Jean-Luc Melenchon for your decency in standing up for a persecuted journalist, when all the others hide behind corrupt power. I pray more people will listen to your words, that you will become president and Julian will be free.
