Here is their solidarity message to JADC which was read outside HMP Belmarsh:

We at Free Assange Ireland send solidarity greetings to you gathered at the 50th Birthday Celebrations for Julian being held outside Belmarsh Prison.

In Ireland one of the reasons the case of Julian Assange resonates so deeply with us is because of our shared experience of being subjected to injustices perpetuated by a system which often showed little or no care for the protection and upholding of human rights, democratic liberties, and the delivery of justice to people. We as a people have witnessed throughout the generations many of our political champions and law abiding citizens unjustly incarcerated and cruelly tortured in the British Penal System, just as is happening to Julian today.

This included some of the most infamous miscarriages of justice such as the cases of the Birmingham Six and Guildford Four where innocent people spent long years in lonely prison cells in England because the UK authorities disregarded people’s rights and the rule of law as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

With the exoneration of the Birmingham Six and the Guildford Four we in Ireland saw this as hope for a new era of peace with justice to be extended not only to the people of Ireland and the UK, but also to the peoples of the rest of the world.

But sadly since then, this feeling of hope was severely put to the test by the actions of UK Governments, collaborating with the U.S. and other powerful States, to spread war and injustices to various parts of our planet. To add insult to injury they hounded, harassed and continue to mete out to Julian a horrible injustice purely because he and WikiLeaks brought to the public the knowledge of the war crimes and human rights violations caused by the actions of these States.

People in Ireland are eager to see Julian released from prison immediately and for his persecution to be stopped. This is reflected in the political support for Julian’s just cause expressed since our Free Assange Ireland campaign started in October last year following an online meeting hosted by Clare Daly, a Member of the European Parliament from Ireland.

Many of our elected representatives at local, national and European level have publicly supported the calls for justice for Julian. This includes about one quarter of the members of Dáil Éireann, our National Legislative Assembly. Julian’s case has also been raised in European forums for our political representatives. In the European Parliament some of our MEPs have used opportunities to raise the issue, and six out of thirteen of them have voted for motions supportive of Julian. Recently Senator Paul Gavan speaking at the European Council of Europe Summer Parliamentary Session made the call for ‘Julian Assange’s freedom’ .

Since the U.S. Presidential elections we often hear that Joe Biden is proud of his Irish roots and heritage, and likes to be associated with our people’s long quest and struggle for peace with justice throughout the generations. Well to this we say that removing a bust of Churchill from a White House office does not signify to us a serious and genuine intention for the establishment of peace with justice throughout the world.

We believe that a good starting point in this regard is for you Mr Biden to heed the humanitarian appeal of Stella Morris for you to “end this now and let Julian’s two little boys have their father back” . It is in the power of you as President and your Administration to drop the appeal in the British Courts for the extradition of Julian, and to stop the process of charges against this innocent man. We in Ireland echo this call from Stella, and hope that you have enough sense of justice to do the right thing.

To you Julian we relay our warmest wishes on your birthday. By doing so we want to convey to you our resolve to continue with our efforts in Ireland to see that an outcome in favour of justice and human rights is achieved so that you will be freed from prison, and that all the legal persecution against you be ceased. You are entitled, as is every person, to live a life with your family and friends without having to worry about intimidation and threats from powerful governments motivated to act against democracy and human rights in pursuit of their selfish so-called ‘strategic interests’.
