On Wednesday the 8th of June 2022, between 1 and 3 pm 20 supporters of WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange gathered in a solidarity vigil organised by JADC, The Committee to Defend Julian Assange. With banners, posters, flyers they protested at the injustice meted out against a journalist and publisher and lobbied for his release.
He is a political prisoner held in maximum security prison in Britain for his journalism at the behest of the United States of America who want to extradite him there to put him on trial for his publishing work, under threat of a 175 years imprisonment under solitary confinement, even what they call Special Administrative measures.
Since 2010 the US and their allies has inflicted upon Julian Assange a barrage of injustices, as Nils Melzer, the former Special Rapporteur for torture has documented in his book, the Trial of Julian Assange, a story of persecution. Read here an excellent review of his book by Jonathan Cook.
A specially made flyer promoting this book was circulated by supporters outside the Houses of Parliament. Other flyers were also distributed encouraging the public to take action in support of Julian Assange.
Next Solidarity vigil outside The Houses of Parliament is Wednesday 15th of June 1-3pm. Join the fight to free Julian Assange!
